The Lovely Annika

The lovely Annika (among others) believes that the focus on the "values voter" is a liberal attempt to avoid accepting the public's referrendum on the war.

I hope she is right.

(As an aside, I'm glad that Annika, representing conservative everywhere, does the midriff and thigh baring for everyone. 'Cause I've seen the Maximum Leader's midriff - and my own. I'm reasonably confident that Annika's torso is more aesthectically pleasing.)

But many of the voices crowing over the evangelical influence are Christian conservatives. Perhaps Bennet, Dobson, et. al., are simpy trying to increase their influence, as the Maximum Leader suggests.

I hope he is right.

I have never been convinced about the fervency of the President's beliefs. Now that he never again has to run for office, will he drop the pandering to the Christian Right IF his previous positions were merely the sum of electoral calculus?

One can hope.

For myself, Annika, rest assured that my recent posts on the election are not an attempt to distract attention from the war. I would be pleased as punch if the election was simply a referendum on the war - but I'm not sure how to interpet it as such; for whom would a person who hawkishly supported the war, but has come to despair over the incompetence of its pursuit, vote?
